Calliope-Interpreters stays true to its environmental commitment and continues to offset its carbon emissions, as it has done since 2019. See our existing blog posts on the topic of sustainability.
This year, 2023, we have turned our attention to the ocean and the protection of marine mammals, and have chosen to donate to a highly reputed NGO based in California, the Marine Mammal Center. The Center, which has the largest marine mammal hospital in the world, works to advance global ocean conservation through scientific research, education and the rescue and rehabilitation of endangered species.
Our modest contribution has enabled us to adopt one of these animals, whose plight is a symbol of the battle to conserve the oceans. Introducing Ahonui, a young Hawaiian monk seal, an endangered species endemic to Hawaii, was rescued by the Marine Mammal Center and released back into the wild.
Furthermore, on Calliope’s proposal, the private market sector of the International Association of Conference Interpreters (AIIC), which met in January 2023, has agreed to recommend that interpreters’ contracts include environmental commitments similar to those enshrined in Calliope’s environmental policy, which aims to limit as far as possible our carbon footprint in terms of our travel, consumption, use of digital tools and other such activities.
This approach is indispensable for our profession and we are proud to be the pioneers.
At Calliope we strive to provide environmentally responsible interpreting services. Contact us to discuss how we can help reduce your event’s environmental footprint.
